Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz chaired a crucial meeting focused on bolstering transportation infrastructure across the province, highlighting plans for an underground train in Lahore and metro bus projects in three Punjab cities.
With the endorsement of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Lahore is set to welcome 27 new electric buses, a decision greenlit during a comprehensive review of transport sector initiatives, graced by the presence of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Emphasizing public welfare, CM Maryam urged officials to maintain affordable bus fares. Additionally, the expansion of Metro Bus projects to three new cities received approval. Ex-PM Nawaz Sharif directed an increase in government-subsidized bikes for students, advocating for low monthly installments.
The meeting was apprised of plans to provide 20,000 bikes, including 19,000 petrol bikes and 1,000 e-bikes, through a collaboration with the Bank of Punjab (BOP).
Monthly installment rates were set at Rs.5,000 for petrol bikes and Rs.10,000 for e-bikes, with a transparent draw scheduled for May to facilitate fair distribution, followed by bike deliveries commencing the same month.
Furthermore, a quota system has been fixed to ensure equal opportunities for male and female students, with a 50% allocation each in cities and a 70% quota for male students and 30% for female students in villages.
