Pakistani engineer earns NASA recognition for exposing critical security flaw

The U.S. space agency NASA has recognized Shehzad Ahmad, a cybersecurity analyst from Pakistan, for identifying a critical security vulnerability in its system.

Shehzad shared the achievement on LinkedIn, saying, “I hacked and secured NASA and received an appreciation letter!” He described it as a significant milestone and a long-awaited achievement. He also expressed his gratitude to NASA’s security team for their recognition and support.

Earlier, another Pakistani engineer, Ahmad Awais, gained international recognition for his contributions to NASA’s Mars 2020 mission.

He helped develop code for the Ingenuity Helicopter, which recently made history as the first aircraft to achieve powered, controlled flight on another planet. The success of this mission was confirmed by the team at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California, using data received from the Perseverance Mars rover.
