Pakistani singer Arooj Aftab has been nominated for the “Best Global Music Performance” at the upcoming 67th Grammy Awards.
Raat Ki Rani, a song by Aftab, has been nominated for Best Global Music Performance. The song is featured on her album “Night Reign,” which won a prize for Best Alternative Jazz Album. This category honors vocal or instrumental albums that feature more than 75% of brand-new alternative jazz recordings.
“OMG [oh moy God] YES!!! This will be the fourth year in a row that the @recordingacademy and industry peers have celebrated my music with these accolades and IT FEELS SO GOOD,” the singer wrote on Instagram on Friday.
“Thank you thank you thank youuuuu and keep spinning Night Reign we are just getting started,” she added.
The fourth nomination for Aftab represents another key milestone in her worldwide success.
With her song “Mohabbat” in the Best Global Music Performance category, Aftab became the first Pakistani musician to win a Grammy in 2022. She was also nominated in two categories for the 2024 Grammy Awards, which are the highest accolades in the music business.
Her art, which blends jazz and folk music with ancient Sufi traditions, has garnered her international recognition. The 39-year-old has been residing in New York for about 15 years. Aftab, who was raised in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, came to the United States at the age of 19 to study at Boston’s Berklee College of Music.
