17-year-old Affan Salman from Pakistan has won the title of World Youth Scrabble Champion (WYSC) in Sri Lanka, securing Pakistan’s fifth win in the prestigious competition—a record for the most championships by any country.
Affan’s remarkable performance included winning 19 out of 23 games, standing out among 138 participants from around the world. His victory reinforces Pakistan’s dominance in youth Scrabble.
Since its inception in 2006 in Wollongong, Australia, the World Youth Scrabble Championship has become a major international event, drawing players from countries like Australia, England, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, the United States, and more.
The 2024 tournament in Colombo was highly competitive, with young players demonstrating impressive linguistic and strategic skills. Open to competitors under 18 as of January 1 of the tournament year, the WYSC continues to showcase global talent.
With this latest triumph, Pakistan’s consistent success in Scrabble has set a new standard in the international arena.
