ISLAMABAD: The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH), located in Karachi, has achieved a notable milestone by securing a place among the top 100 Academic Medical Centres (AMCs) worldwide, according to the latest Brand Finance 2024 Global Top 250 Hospitals’ report.

AKUH has earned the distinguished 85th position in this ranking, distinguishing itself alongside other renowned institutions such as Mayo Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, Combined Military Hospital, and University Dental Hospital, which have also made it to the 250 rank list.

The top two positions in the global AMC ranking have been claimed by prestigious American hospitals, with an Indian hospital securing the third position. Notably, three Indian hospitals feature in the top 100 ranks overall.

Being the sole hospital in Pakistan accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI), a leading hospital accreditation body worldwide, AKUH stands as a beacon of excellence in healthcare standards.

This marks the second time that Brand Finance, the organization conducting these rankings, has evaluated and listed AMCs globally. The current top-ranking AMCs include the renowned US hospitals Mayo Clinic and Massachusetts General Hospital, with India’s Aiims securing the third position and Singapore General Hospital the fourth.

Moreover, the presence of experienced and compassionate healthcare professionals, coupled with a convenient and easily accessible location, wide-ranging medical specialties, and initiatives prioritizing affordability through financial assistance programs and discounted services, have all been pivotal in securing AKUH’s position.

Highlighting its legacy of nearly four decades, AKUH has been a trailblazer in healthcare standards in Pakistan. It was the first hospital in the country to attain ISO certification in 2000, JCI accreditation in 2006, JCI accreditation as an AMC in 2015, and Certified Analytics Professional (CAP) accreditation in 2017, underscoring its commitment to excellence and innovation in healthcare delivery.
