Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam etched his name in the chronicles of cricket history by surpassing the renowned Indian batsman Virat Kohli’s record for the most 50-plus scores in T20I cricket.
Azam’s achievement unfolded during the conclusive match of a three-game T20I series against Ireland. Exhibiting remarkable prowess, he crafted a masterful innings of 75 runs off just 45 deliveries, steering Pakistan to a commanding victory over Ireland by six wickets, thereby securing the T20I series.
With this feat, Babar Azam now boasts an impressive tally of 39 fifty-plus scores in T20Is, edging ahead of Kohli, who stands at 38.
The milestone moment occurred during the initial T20I encounter against Ireland in Dublin, where Azam notched his 35th half-century in T20Is, marking his overall 38th 50-plus score, thereby equaling Kohli’s illustrious record.
The former Indian skipper has amassed 38 fifty-plus scores across 117 T20Is to date. Currently, he occupies the third position in the list of batters with the highest runs in T20I cricket, trailing only behind Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
To overtake Kohli’s remarkable tally, Azam requires a mere 82 more runs.
