China’s Hunan University of Medicine has inaugurated a new research center named after Pakistani Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary.
This center will employ 17 full-time researchers focused on enhancing scientific collaboration between Pakistan and China, according to a press statement.
Established in 1912, Hunan University of Medicine is a national public medical university in China, offering around 20 undergraduate and graduate programs with a faculty of over 4,500 and a student body exceeding 14,000.
Dr. Choudhary has long advocated for collaboration between Chinese and Pakistani scientists, particularly in establishing research centers. He has received several honors, including Pakistan’s civil awards—Hilal-i-Imtiaz, Sitara-i-Imtiaz, and Tamgha-i-Imtiaz—and in 2021, he was awarded the Mustafa Prize for his contributions to bio-organic chemistry.
Currently, Dr. Choudhary serves as vice president of the World Academy of Sciences for Central and South Asia and is also a fellow of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) and the Royal Society of Chemistry in London. The center represents a key milestone in strengthening scientific cooperation between China and Pakistan, the statement read.
