An exceptional surge in passenger numbers during Eid al-Fitr has led to a significant increase in revenue for Pakistan Railways, with record earnings reported over just three days.
According to railway officials, revenue continued to rise throughout the Eid period, reaching approximately Rs110 million on the first day, Rs170 million on the second, and over Rs200 million on the third day.
A spokesperson stated that passenger trains generated more than Rs1 billion in revenue within a single week, reflecting a clear improvement in the organisation’s performance.
Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi described the achievement as the result of effective planning and improved management, and commended the efforts of railway staff.
He added that enhancing passenger facilities and strengthening railway infrastructure remain key government priorities, with ongoing efforts focused on these areas.
The minister further stated that the railway track from Karachi to Rohri will be fully upgraded within the next three years.
