In a landmark move to provide relief to grieving families, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially approved the province’s first-ever Free Funeral Transport Service.

The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, aimed at overhauling social services and administrative ethics across Punjab.

Free Ambulance Service for Deceased
For the first time in Punjab’s history, the government will provide free ambulance services to transport the deceased from hospitals to their homes. Key features of the plan include:

At least one dedicated funeral van will be available in every tehsil.

Families can avail of this service by simply dialing 1122 or visiting dedicated counters at government hospitals.

In a major relief, the service will also cover the transport of bodies from hospitals to other cities at no cost.

The entire fleet will be managed via a Smart Management System to ensure transparency and timely response.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed officials to submit a comprehensive rollout plan for all major government hospitals and tehsils immediately.

Regulating Private Ambulances
The meeting also reached an agreement to regulate private ambulance services. To prevent the exploitation of citizens during emergencies, the government is reviewing a proposal to fix standardized rates for private providers, ensuring they operate under a strictly monitored framework.
