Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has recorded a major improvement in its global standing, climbing 30 places in the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) 2025, a development that reflects growing operational efficiency and increased maritime activity at Pakistan’s largest seaport.
According to a KPT spokesperson, the port’s CPPI score improved from 30.0 to 45.7, reflecting substantial gains in operational efficiency and performance.
The spokesperson described the achievement as a testament to KPT’s commitment to operational excellence and the dedicated efforts of its workforce in enhancing port productivity and global competitiveness.
KPT officials have also expressed confidence in achieving their next target of securing a place among the world’s top 50 ports by 2027.
The improvement comes amid a notable increase in port activity during fiscal year 2025-26. Karachi Port recorded the movement of 2,000 ships for the first time since fiscal year 2017-18, highlighting growing maritime and trade activity.
Cargo handling at the port exceeded 84.4 million tons during the fiscal year. Ship arrivals increased by 7.5 percent compared to fiscal year 2024-25, while cargo handling recorded a 3 percent year-on-year rise.
