Pakistan’s cueist Muhammad Asif opened his World Games snooker campaign in impressive fashion, registering a convincing victory over China’s Xiaolong Liang in his opening group match in Chengdu, China, on Sunday.
Asif controlled the match from the outset, winning the best-of-three encounter 2-0. He took the first frame 79-50 before closing out the contest with a dominant 77-24 score in the second frame.
He is scheduled to face Germany’s Alexander in his second group match on Monday.
In the men’s snooker competition at the World Games, 12 players are split into four groups, with the top two from each advancing to the quarterfinals.
The World Games 2025 commenced in Chengdu on Friday, bringing together over 4,000 athletes from more than 100 countries to compete in 34 disciplines, including snooker. Cue sports, first introduced to the Games in 2001, will feature 12 contenders vying for the gold medal this year.
