The Pakistan men’s field hockey team defeated Switzerland 10-1 in Oman on Wednesday to clinch the Challenger title, after a disappointing run at the Hockey 5s World Cup tournament.
For teams that are unable to advance to the Hockey 5s World Cup quarterfinals, there is an additional competition called the Challenger Trophy.
After defeating Nigeria 11-5 in the Hockey5s World Cup opener last week, the South Asian nation was eliminated from the competition on Monday after falling to Poland 8-7.
“Goals galore from Pakistan on their way to a massive 10-1 victory over Switzerland in the Challenger Trophy match,” the International Hockey Federation wrote on social media platform X.
On Sunday, the green shirts had lost as well, this time against the Netherlands.
A version of conventional field hockey that has gained popularity in many nations worldwide is called Hockey5s, or Field Hockey5s. Instead of the customary eleven players on each team, H5s uses five players, including one goalkeeper.
The matches, as a result, are much faster and designed to ensure hockey becomes a more exciting sport for spectators. Sixteen teams, divided into four pools are featuring in the first-ever Hockey 5s World Cup.
