The Pakistan rowing team delivered a commendable performance at the Asian Indoor Rowing Championship, held in Penang, Malaysia, from August 9 to 11, securing a total of five gold, five silver, and four bronze medals, according to the Pakistan Rowing Federation’s report on Monday.

More than fifteen Asian countries participated, sending hundreds of athletes to compete in the event. Notably, Pakistan had only managed to win one gold medal in the previous Asian Indoor Rowing Championships in 2019, making this year’s impressive achievement a significant improvement. The team consisted of four female and ten male athletes from Pakistan.

The team of M. Imran Dogar, Ahmad Aziz, Imran Aslam, and Zark Khan won the gold medal in the open men’s 4×500-meter relay. Abdul Rehman, M. Abdul Rehman, Gohar Ayub, and Muzamil Shahzad added another gold in the lightweight men’s 4×500-meter relay, extending Pakistan’s winning streak.

In the under-23 lightweight men’s single (2000m), M. Abdul Rehman secured another gold, while Zark Khan also contributed to the gold tally. Additionally, Muzamil Shahzad claimed gold in the 500-meter lightweight men’s single event.

In the women’s events, Naila Bano earned a silver medal in the 500-meter lightweight women’s single. Along with Naila, the mixed lightweight 4×500 meter relay team—featuring Razia Hanif, Muzamil Shahzad, and Gohar Ayyub—also won silver. M. Abdul Rehman took silver in the under-19 men’s single (500 meters) competition, while Mohammad Adil Virk earned silver in the open-weight men’s single (2000 meters).
