In a historic first, Pakistani-origin Omar Yaqub has been elected mayor of Creil, securing over 51% of the vote in the 2026 municipal elections.

His mother thanked both the Pakistani community and local citizens, saying, “I am deeply grateful to everyone who supported my son.”

Backed by a left-wing party, Yaqub’s campaign focused on social justice, public services, and environmental protection, winning widespread support from local residents.

Departing from traditional political methods, Yaqub engaged citizens through public gatherings and direct outreach.

Originally from Lahore, the newly elected mayor plans to focus on creating employment opportunities, improving housing and education, and ensuring equitable social services in Creil. A professional educator, Yaqub has long been active in local community initiatives and sports programs.
