Pakistan bagged silver and bronze medals in the 65th International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO 2024), held from July 11 to 22 in Bath, UK. This accomplishment was announced by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.
Razi Hasan Mansoor, a student from Karachi, secured the silver medal, while Muhammad Ahmad Bhatti from Karachi School earned the bronze medal. Additionally, Muhammad Mehd Arif of Sundus School, Lahore received an Honorable Mention for Pakistan.
In the preceding week, two Pakistani students also won bronze medals at the International Biology Olympiad in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The Pakistani team participated in the IMO under the STEM Career Program, a collaboration between the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences. The Mathematics team, trained at COMSATS University, Lahore Campus, was mentored by Prof. Dr. Sarfaraz Ahmed and Dr. Hani Shakir.
PIEAS University, under the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, organizes the National Science Talent Competition annually in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology.
The IMO 2024 featured participants from 108 countries, totaling 609 students, including 528 males and 81 females. The top winners were teams from the United States, China, and South Korea, with India ranking fourth with a total score of 167.
