A four-member team of Pakistani students shined at the international stage, winning four bronze medals at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) held in Bolivia from July 27 to August 3.
A press release issued by the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) said that Muhammad Aniq, Ghulam Junaid, Muhammad Sarm, and Ahmad Imran Malik won bronze medals for Pakistan.
The press release said that “Among 86 participating countries, Pakistan secured 32nd position, ahead of many technologically advanced nations such as Germany, Austria, Türkiye, France, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, Finland, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Saudi Arabia.”
Last year, the Pakistani team won two bronze medals and was ranked 46th overall.
The press release further noted that “this outstanding performance by the Pakistani team reflects FBISE’s transparent and merit-based selection policy and showcases the immense talent and capability of Pakistani youth. It is an important step forward in promoting computer science and informatics in the country.”
Congratulating the students, their families, coaches, and partner institutions, the FBISE said the achievement was a source of pride and honor for the entire nation.
It is worth recalling that the Federal Ministry of Education and Professional Training assigns FBISE each year the responsibility for organising Pakistan’s participation in the IOI. FBISE, in turn, issued notifications to all educational boards — including the Inter-Boards Coordination Committee (IBCC) — inviting students from every academic system, including the Cambridge system, to take part.
The same notice was also sent to the directorates of education and institutions affiliated with FBISE. As a result, 528 students from across the country registered for the Pakistani Olympiad in Informatics (POI).
