Pakistan’s Ashab Irfan wins Kanso Open Squash Championship after beating India’s Chotrani

Ashab Irfan of Pakistan triumphed over India’s Veer Chotrani to win the Kanso Open Squash Championship in Houston on Sunday. Earlier, Irfan secured victory in the Rochester Proam tournament in the US.

At 20 years old, Irfan has had an impressive run in the Kanso Open. He overcame Mexico’s Jorge Luis Gomez Dominguez with scores of 8-11, 10-12, 11-4, 11-2, and 11-9 to qualify for the semifinals on Friday. In the semifinals, he defeated Canadian Liam Morrison 11-8, 11-6, and 13-11 to advance to the final.

Chotrani, meanwhile, reached the final by defeating Mexico’s Alfredo Avila Vergara in the semifinal with scores of 11-3, 9-11, 11-7, and 11-7.

The final match between Irfan and Chotrani was closely contested. Irfan emerged victorious with a score of 11-7, 8-11, 12-10, 8-11, and 11-8. After securing the match point, Irfan celebrated jubilantly, placing his squash racket on the floor and prostrating on the court to the cheers and applause of the audience.

This marks Irfan’s second international squash title this year. He previously won the Rochester Proam Squash Tournament in April, defeating Dominguez in the final with scores of 12-10, 11-4, 9-11, and 11-9.
