Pakistan has inaugurated its first anti-smog tower in Lahore, as reported by the environmental protection department.

This initiative was a collaboration between the department and a private firm, resulting in the installation of a tower capable of purifying 50,000 cubic metres of air each hour. Officials indicated that should the tower demonstrate effective performance, additional units would be deployed throughout the city.

Situated at Mehmood Booti, the tower is engineered to cleanse 1.2 million cubic metres of air daily by utilizing electrostatic charges to draw in pollutants. The tower was locally manufactured by a private company based in Islamabad.

Imran Hamid Sheikh, the Director General of Environment, stated that significant quantities of chemical pollutants are released by industries and waste disposal sites, highlighting the necessity for the tower’s establishment. He also noted that the Punjab government did not incur any costs for the trial phase, which is set to last for 15 days.
