Mixed marital arts athlete Irfan Mehsood has made history as the first Pakistani to achieve 100 Guinness World Records, according to an official from the local MMA federation on Wednesday.
Mehsood, 33, hails from the South Waziristan tribal district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. He holds records for the most push-ups, squats, jumping jacks, squat thrusts, step-ups, knee strikes, elbow strikes, side jumps, and high jumps.
Earlier, Italian weightlifter Marcello Ferri set a record by lifting a 40-pound weight with his toe for 1 minute and 32 seconds. Mehsood broke this record by lifting the same weight for 3 minutes and 20 seconds.
“All Pakistan MMA President Babar Raja announced that Irfan Mehsood is the first Pakistani athlete to hold 100 Guinness World Records,” he told Arab News on Wednesday. “Despite the lack of recognition in his district, he has achieved widespread fame in the MMA world.”
Mehsood has surpassed records previously held by athletes from 16 different countries, including the United States, Britain, India, China, Norway, Germany, France, Finland, the Philippines, Spain, Italy, Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq, Pakistan, and Syria. He was also honored with a presidential award in 2023.
