Pakistan’s Sohail sisters win gold and bronze at Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship

Pakistani weightlifter Sybir Sohail won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in Sun City, South Africa on Friday.

Sybil won the prestigious event, lifting  the 47kg category and retained Pakistan’s top ranking. Her sister Veronica Sohail won a bronze medal after competing in the 52kg category.

The British athlete won the gold medal in the category, while the Indian athlete bagged the silver medal. The Championship will be held from October 4 to 13 and will feature players from 15 Commonwealth countries.

The three members from Pakistan include Sybil, Veronica and their sister Twinkle Sohail.

Participating teams come from  Australia, England, Canada, India, Isle of Man, Sri Lanka, Northern Ireland, Wales, Singapore, New Zealand, Scotland, Trinidad  and Tobago and South Africa.

Moreover, Pakistan gold medalist Mohammad Noh Dastagir Butt will compete in the  Commonwealth Men’s Athletics Championships. Hasnan Raza Haider Ali and Dr. Adnan also participated in various elite courses at the event.  The team  set off for South Africa on October 6th.
