Port storage charges cut by up to 50% to support exporters

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has announced a reduction of 25 to 50 per cent in storage charges at Karachi Port Trust terminals.

The minister stated that exporters will receive special concessions on delayed shipments bound for Gulf countries. Relief measures will also apply to cargo containers currently stranded at ports.

He added that the initiative is aimed at easing financial pressure on exporters and supporting the country’s export sector. Efforts are also underway to resolve logistics challenges and improve cargo clearance processes.

According to the minister, storage charges at KPT terminals will be waived by 50 per cent up to 20 March, while a 50 per cent concession will be offered at Karachi International Container Terminal until 10 March. At South Asia Pakistan Terminals, a 25 per cent reduction will be लागू from 11 to 31 March.

Junaid Anwar Chaudhry also praised the efforts of KPT Chairman Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed, noting that reforms are essential to align the port system with modern commercial requirements.
