The Punjab government has launched a new welfare initiative, the “Rehmat Card” programme, aimed at providing financial assistance to widows and orphaned children across the province.

Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries will receive a payment of Rs100,000 each, officials said during a briefing following the programme’s inauguration by the Chief Minister.

Authorities confirmed that Rs5 billion has been allocated from the provincial Zakat fund for the initiative. As a result, only Muslim widows and orphaned children who qualify for Zakat under Islamic principles will be eligible.

Officials added that widows who are government employees, pensioners, or otherwise financially stable will not qualify for assistance under the programme.

Applications can be submitted through a dedicated mobile application, while further information is available via a helpline. Beneficiaries will be selected using data from the Punjab Socio-Economic Registry (PSER), with final selections made based on district-level quotas.

For applicants not already registered in the PSER database, their information will be verified through the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

Payments under the Rehmat Card scheme will be disbursed through JazzCash wallet accounts, officials said.
