The Government of Punjab has decided to introduce electronic tags (e-tags) for all vehicles, including motorcycles, as part of enhanced security arrangements.

According to media reports, an important law and order meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, during which several key decisions were taken.

In view of the prevailing situation, it was agreed that e-tags would be installed on all vehicles across the province to strengthen long-term security. The proposal received formal approval from the Chief Minister.

The meeting also approved the establishment of a Punjab Cyber Crime Investigation Unit. A dedicated cell will be set up to support women and girls who fall victim to cybercrime. The Chief Minister has given the go-ahead for the appointment of a head of the new unit, while District Online Crime Centres will be established across the province. Officials stated that criminal groups would no longer have any “safe routes” within Punjab.

Participants were further directed to ensure restrictions on movement through unofficial provincial entry points. Approval was granted for the installation of searchlights at entry routes, along with the deployment of drone surveillance. Instructions were also issued to ensure rooftop security monitoring at check posts.

The Chief Minister has ordered immediate steps for the procurement of advanced drone defence systems and directed authorities to enforce restrictions on the unauthorised use of drones.
