The Punjab government has decided to introduce a Smart Rapid Transport (SRT) system in Lahore, which will operate along the Yellow Line route.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has assigned Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan the task of making the project operational at the earliest.

Bilal Akbar Khan said the SRT system will run along Canal Road from Thokar Chowk to Harbanspura, covering a route of approximately 26 kilometers. The plan includes the construction of around eight stations along the corridor.

He said the system will operate with six rail units and is expected to serve more than 12,000 passengers daily. The estimated cost of the project ranges between Rs.6 billion and Rs.8 billion.

The minister said that although the route aligns with the Yellow Line, the government has set a target to make the SRT system operational within one month. He added that authorities have already opened the tender process for the project.
