For the first time in Pakistan’s history, women have been appointed as firefighters in Sindh, as reported by the media on Wednesday.

According to the report, Sindh Rescue 1122 has recruited 72 female firefighters. Director General of Sindh Rescue 1122, Dr. Abid, stated that these female firefighters are fully capable of handling any fire incidents in Karachi with ease. He mentioned that they have also been trained to rescue individuals from drowning incidents in the sea and canals. The recruits include women from various parts of rural Sindh, who received their training in Punjab.

One of the newly appointed female firefighters stated, “We are fully equipped and trained to handle any fire emergencies.”

It is noteworthy that while the female population in Pakistan exceeds that of men, their representation in many fields remains low. However, there has been improvement over time, with political parties, particularly the ruling Pakistan People’s Party in Sindh, increasingly providing opportunities for women in various walks of life.
