Pakistani mountaineers Sirbaz Khan and Abid Baig have made history by becoming the first from the country to scale Tirich Mir, the highest peak of the Hindu Kush mountain range.
Standing at 7,708 meters in Chitral district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Tirich Mir is regarded as one of the most challenging peaks in the region. The successful ascent was part of a provincial government initiative that sent a seven-member expedition to attempt the summit.
While Khan and Baig reached the top, five other members of the team managed to climb as high as 7,300 meters before being forced to turn back due to severe weather conditions. The team included Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Authority Director Umar Khan, Dr. Naveed Iqbal, Major Muhammad Atif, Shams-ul-Qamar, and Akmal Naveed.

According to APP, both Khan and Baig, who belong to Gilgit-Baltistan, completed the summit with the support of the provincial authorities.
Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur congratulated the climbers, noting that the government had already declared 2025–26 as the “Year of Tirich Mir” to promote mountaineering and tourism in the region.
