Pakistani actress Sonya Hussyn has won the Best Supporting Actress award for her performance in the film Deemak at the Eurasian Open Awards.
Filmmakers from 17 countries of Asia, Europe, Africa, and Latin America came together in Moscow during the first award ceremony. The event was truly global, with 34 screened films contributing to the vibrant and eclectic mix of cinematic exchange.
Pakistan was represented by two films: Love Guru starring Mahira Khan and Humayun Saeed and Deemak.
After securing her award, the Masoom star took to Instagram to say, “This moment is bigger than an award. It’s proof that when a dream is carried with honesty, hunger, and heart. it always finds its way home.”
She added, “To every young girl in Pakistan who wonders if her voice matters – this win is for you.”
Deemak stars Faysal Quraishi, Samina Peerzada, Javed Sheikh, and Bushra Ansari. According to Variety, the movie has grossed Rs17.5 crore ($620,000) at the local box office, a feat considered unprecedented in the horror genre for the region. It has become the all-time highest-grossing horror film of Pakistan and is still running in various cinemas across the country.
