Cursor, a rapidly rising player in the artificial intelligence space, is making headlines after reports of a potential $60 billion acquisition deal with SpaceX.
The startup, co-founded by Pakistani-born Sualeh Asif, has become one of the most prominent tools for AI-assisted coding, attracting millions of developers and major enterprises worldwide.
Its rapid growth reflects the increasing demand for automation in software development and highlights how AI startups are quickly reshaping the global tech landscape.
Cursor is among a new wave of Silicon Valley startups, alongside OpenAI and Anthropic, that are transforming coding by using artificial intelligence to automate complex programming tasks. This sector has quickly emerged as one of the earliest areas where AI companies are achieving strong commercial success and widespread adoption.
The collaboration is expected to combine Cursor’s advanced developer-focused platform with SpaceX’s powerful Colossus training supercomputer, enabling the creation of highly capable AI models.
Asif, originally from Karachi, studied at Nixor College before attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he also represented Pakistan at the International Math Olympiad from 2016 to 2018. He later co-founded Anysphere, the company behind Cursor, which now generates over $1 billion in annualized revenue and serves millions of developers worldwide.
