Pakistan’s Taymur Waseem clinched the Under-8 title at the prestigious World Youth Scrabble Championship, held in Malaysia, showcasing remarkable talent and bringing pride to the nation.
The tournament featured 216 players from 16 countries, competing across various age categories. Taymur, a Class 2 student at the HHS School System, displayed exceptional skill and focus throughout the championship, ultimately defeating Australia’s Justin Eng in the final to claim the world title.
Adding to Pakistan’s success, Muhammad Yusuf, a Class 4 student from HHS O Level School, earned the runner-up position in the Under-10 category, reinforcing the school system’s dedication to both academic and co-curricular excellence.
Once seen as a traditional pastime, Scrabble has seen a surge in popularity among Pakistani youth, bolstered by the country’s deep-rooted connection to the English language. Since the inauguration of the Youth World Scrabble Championship in 2006, Pakistan has produced more champions than any other country, establishing itself as a powerhouse in the global Scrabble scene.
