The wife of a martyred Pakistan Navy officer, Alveera Hamza, has been commissioned as an officer in the Navy.
The wife of late Lieutenant Commander Hamza Abid Shahid has joined the Pakistan Navy’s IT branch after receiving the Commandant Gold Medal.
Lieutenant Commander Hamza Abid Shahid embraced martyrdom (Shahadat) in the line of duty.
On September 4, 2023, Lieutenant Commander Hamza Abid was serving on a Westland WS-61 Sea King anti-submarine warfare helicopter belonging to the Pakistan Naval Air Arm.
The helicopter tragically crashed during a training exercise at PNS Akram in Gwadar, Balochistan, due to sudden technical issues. All three crew members on board including Lieutenant Commander Jawad Shah and Air Crewman Hasnain Haider lost their lives and embraced martyrdom
Alveera Hamza said that after her husband’s martyrdom, she felt a strong desire to join the Pakistan Navy.
“The uniform in which I saw my husband, standing today in a similar uniform at the same institution is a matter of great pride for me,” she said.
She further added that her emotions cannot be expressed in words. She described her time at the Pakistan Naval Academy as a wonderful experience and said she wants to encourage every girl in Pakistan: “If I can show courage, you can also join the armed forces.”
