Tanweer Ahmed, an American-Pakistani business magnate, has donated $9 million to the National University of Science & Technology (NUST) in Islamabad to support scholarships that allow underprivileged students to attend top-notch universities.
Tanweer Ahmed is an American-Pakistani businessman, investor, entrepreneur and philanthropist who works with major companies, not for profit organizations and hospitals. He is the owner of the largest cricket complex in Houston, the Prairie View Cricket Complex and the owner of the Houston Hurricanes cricket franchise.
Tanweer Ahmed and the university have partnered to establish an Endowment Fund for underprivileged students, which would enable roughly 200 students to receive scholarships annually, according to NUST. One of the biggest donations ever made to a Pakistani university by an outside Pakistani is $9 million.
Tanweer Ahmed said in an interview that he plans to expand the scheme to other universities and to NUST where the donation scheme will run permanently. He said that a formal ceremony will take place at the NUST Islamabad next month which will be attended by Pakistan’s top leadership to formally launch the scholarship program.
