Pakistani students will receive free access to Google’s advanced artificial intelligence (AI) tools for one year under a new agreement aimed at accelerating Pakistan’s digital transformation and strengthening its technology sector.
Pakistan and Google signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Friday during a reception hosted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the Google team at the PM House, according to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
Under the agreement, students will receive free access to tools including Google AI Plus and Gemini. The two sides will also expand cooperation in digital skills, IT exports, innovation, digital payments and e-commerce.
The MOU aims to strengthen cooperation in Pakistan on digital skills, IT exports and innovation, while Google has set a target of issuing 150,000 career certificates in the country in 2026. Google will target 150,000 Google Career Certificates in Pakistan in 2026, while Pakistan and the tech giant will cooperate on establishing an AI centre of excellence in Islamabad to train young people for global market demands.
The partnership will also promote AI use in public services, agriculture and the Federal Board of Revenue’s digitization program.
A joint task force will develop a roadmap to boost IT exports and competitiveness, supporting the government’s goal of increasing the digital economy and IT exports to $30 billion by 2030.
